Top Ten Tuesdays is hosted weekly by The Broke and Bookish and anyone is free to participate! This week’s topic is on covers, so I’m covering my top favorite vector based covers. Vector based covers are actually quite prevalent in the book world. But my favorite vector covers have to be the minimalist ones; the ones that use negative space productively or have an abundant amount of negative space. Without further adieu, let’s get started!

Shades of Magic series

In my recent memory, this was one of the only books I’ve bought for the cover alone. It’s beautifully illustrated and has just enough details (although I know this is cheating a little because there’s a map in there).

History is All You Left Me

I LOVE how complimentary these blues are. I mean, my favorite color is blue, so this cover already had a couple extra brownie points. But I love the contrast of day and night and over/under. It’s so symbolic. Just read it, it’ll become so much deeper.

Ramona Blue

This cover (and book) is probably one of my newest favorites. I LOVE how simple it is and yet so deep. Apparently the book’s first title was “Ramona Drowning,” but now that it’s called Ramona Blue, I can’t imagine it being called anything else. Also drowning wouldn’t have been as good (design wise) because it’s longer and the font would have had to be smaller.

The Night Circus

I don’t think I need to say anything about this one. Just look at it. “The circus arrives without warning.”

Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom

I mean the negative space to end all negative spaces. Kaz would be so proud. JUST LOOK AT THE FEATHERS AND THE BUILDINGS. Perfection.

Landline

Landline is such a charming love story. Fangirl is pretty popular, but Rowell’s adult novels are less so. The yellow rotary phone is the center of this story and the grey compliments it so well.

Boxers and Saints

Fitting a graphic novels should grace this list! Gene Leun Yang wrote this gold medal of a book (which I have still yet to read), but it’s such an interesting story about a little known part of history.

Paprika

This cover is STUNNING. I love how simply it’s illustrated. It makes me so happy how clean and sophisticated it is.

What are your favorite covers? What makes a cover “do it” for you?
