• This is a short story by Aliette de Bodard, I found through Twitter, read it here! It’s only a first chapter sample though.

• The writing is so elegant.

• Chilling. So chilling.

• So the house comes alive, or there are creatures inside the house, or the house is a creature itself? And how does the Master play into it, or does he feed off the energy the house consumes? SO MANY MYSTERIES!

• Please tell me Isaure is going to live. But it’s too early in the book for her to live.

• Wait, are there borders at the house? Or is she a servant/daughter of a servant too?

• Is this like The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas? Oh my gosh, IT IS. The mother was heartbroken, but she knew because she asked about the poppies.

• Wait, so even the victims know what’s going on???

• What if he was just like her??? And this is the price for killing the master who tricked him… Except he doesn’t fit the model.

• Dang! That was crazy creepy! Did she become a horse then?? 6/10, would read again!

• Ugh. Cellars.

• Basically, I want the rest of this book. Please tell me it will expand into a whole book!!! 🙏🙏🙏
